PLASTICS RECYCLING EUROPE
PRE offers online platform to support packaging recycling
Plastics Recyclers Europe (PRE, Brussels / Belgium; www.plasticsrecyclers.eu) has launched an online platform called RecyClass (www.recyclass.eu) to assist those companies that want to increase the recyclability of their plastics packaging. Paolo Glerean, chair of RecyClass, said the platform is the right tool to help companies build brand credibility with the support of the plastics recycling industry.
RecyClass is based on the “Design for Recycling Guidelines” developed by the European PET Bottle Platform (EPBP; www.epbp.org) and elaborated by PRE. The RecyClass project was introduced in 2013 – see Plasteurope.com of 26.04.2013.
The tool shows to which extent a package is suitable for recycling, rating it from “A” – fully recyclable – to “F” – incineration is the only feasible option. It also provides specific indications and recommendations on how to improve packaging design to fit current recycling technologies.
The platform offers customer service support by email, official RecyClass certification and labelling, analysis and assessment of companies’ recycling policies, on-site customised training, a seat on RecyClass advisory board and the display of company logos on a dedicated section of the RecyClass website.
Three different supporting levels are offered. Bronze, gold and platinum cost EUR 3,000, EUR 5,000 and EUR 10,000 per year, respectively.
