POLYONE
US materials supplier takes over LFT compounder PlastiComp
Compounder and distributor PolyOne's (Avon Lake, Ohio / USA; www.polyone.com) shopping spree is continuing. The company recently acquired PlastiComp (Winona, Minnesota / USA; www.plasticomp.com), a specialist in long-fibre thermoplastic (LFT) materials – see Plasteurope.com of 12.05.2017 – which is represented in Europe with its subsidiary PlastiComp Europe (Steenbergen / The Netherlands). The purchase price was not disclosed.
On six pultrusion and extrusion lines, PlastiComp processes a wide range of matrix materials, from polypropylene to PEEK reinforced with long glass fibre (LGF) and long carbon fibre (LCF) grades between 10-50%. It also produces hybrid LCF and LGF compounds. The company's capacity is not known, but could be estimated with two LCF lines and four LGF lines at around 10,000-12,000 t/y.
Whether its partnership in the polyamide sector with DSM (Sittard / The Netherlands; www.dsm.com) and speciality compounder Xenia (Mussolente / Italy; www.xeniamaterials.com) will continue after the acquisition is not known – the company did not respond to a request from Plasteurope.com. However, PolyOne works with Xenia on high-performance carbon fibre-reinforced polymers.
Over the last year, PolyOne has also acquired the two colourant and additives specialists, Iqap Masterbatch (Les Masies de Roda / Spain; www.iqapgroup.com) and Mesa Industries (Phoenix, Arizona / USA; www.mesaindustries.com) – see Plasteurope.com of 09.01.2018.
