China has become a major car manufacturing country, and put an emphasis on developing energy-saving automobiles in its "Made in China 2025" strategy. According to a January 2018 report by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (Beijing; www.caam.org.cn/english), Chinese production of "new energy" vehicles (NEVs, comprising battery electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids and fuel-cell cars) in 2017 amounted to 794,000, a year-on-year growth of 53.8%.
The theme of "Chinaplas" (www.chinaplasonline.com) in 2018 is "Innovation is Key to the Future", created around the need for electric, lightweight and intelligent vehicles. The trade show will run from 24-27 April 2018 at the new "NECC" exhibition centre in Shanghai – see Plasteurope.com of 09.01.2018. Along with the themes "Smart Manufacturing", "Innovative Materials" and "Green Solutions", organiser Adsale Exhibition Services (Hong Kong / China; www.adsale.com.hk) says Chinaplas will include more than 1,500 exhibitors for energy-saving and environmentally friendly solutions applicable to the automotive industry.
Weight reduction, a crucial factor of NEVs, calls for the use of polymer-based composites in the manufacture of structural parts. Many companies, such as Beijing Tiangang Auxiliary and DSM will be exhibiting composites for automotive applications at Chinaplas. Toshiba Machine (Shanghai) and MuCell will showcase new equipment and processing technology that can accelerate the development of automotive lightweighting.
The "Automotive 4.0" seminar at the “2nd Industry 4.0 Conference” in 2017 was a full-house event. Adsale is again co-organising the "3rd Industry 4.0 Conference", along with the German association VDMA Kunststoff- und Gummimaschinen (KuG, Frankfurt; https://kug.vdma.org). Presenters will talk about applications of their technologies, bringing insights into smart manufacturing from multiple perspectives. Participants can expect Industry 4.0 factory case studies and in-depth application discussions.
Recently, the German association for plastics and rubber machinery, VDMA Kunststoff- und Gummimaschinen (KuG, Frankfurt; http://kug.vdma.org) published 2016 export data – see Plasteurope.com of 06.03.2018. Five of the top ten countries for plastics and rubber machinery exports to China were from the EU.
Plasteurope.com will also have a booth at the fair. You can find us at 2J48 in hall 2. In addition, Plasteurope.com publisher the KI Group will again be putting together a readers’ trip to Chinaplas, which will run from 22-27 April. This trade fair trip is a fast, simple and competitively priced way to organise your visit to Chinaplas and offers huge networking opportunities for all European decision makers.
