Kohlberg & Company (Mount Kisco, New York / USA; www.kohlberg.com) is purchasing Newell Brands' (Hoboken, New Jersey / USA; www.newellbrands.com) Winter Sports businesses. As announced, Newell will separate from companies such as ski manufacturers K2 (Carlsbad, California / USA; www.k2sports.com) and Völkl (Straubing / Germany; www.voelkl.com) and the ski boots maker Dalbello (Casella D'Asolo / Italy; www.dalbello.it). The transaction is scheduled for the second or third quarter of 2017 and the purchase price is USD 240m (around EUR 215m).
The affected brands and companies recently generated revenues of approximately USD 330m and had an EBITDA of USD 25m. Völkl, the last German ski manufacturer, wants to preserve all 400 jobs at its Straubing plant and even expand composites processing there. This is the fourth ownership change for Völkl since 2004.
