SELENIS
New product offering launched / Rebranding of polyester portfolio
Speciality polyester producer Selenis (Portalegre / Portugal; www.selenis.com) has enhanced its product offering by adding new lines and improving existing formulations. The company developed the products at an R&D facility in San Giorgio di Nogaro / Italy, which includes a pilot production plant. Parent group IMG acquired the R&D facility including the PET production, which is now Selenis’ main technical support centre, from erstwhile La Seda last year (see also Plasteurope.com of 16.04.2015).
As a result of the expansion and rebranding of its products, Selenis said it can compete in market segments and applications such as cosmetics packaging, geo textiles, medical, 3D printing, technical films and carpet fibres.
In addition to its plants in Portugal and Italy, Selenis also operated a 144,000 t/y PET plant in Montréal / Canada until August, when DAK Americas (Charlotte, North Carolina / USA; www.dakamericas.com) acquired a majority stake in the facility. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed. Part of Mexico's Alpek group, DAK said the purchase is aimed at expanding its footprint in Canada and achieving synergies on the feedstock front.
