German automotive parts moulder and electroplater Gerhardi Kunststofftechnik (Lüdenscheid; www.gerhardi.com/en) is expanding into the USA with the construction of an injection moulding, electroplating and assembly facility in Montgomery, Alabama. Construction work on the USD 38m (EUR 35.8m) project will begin at the end of 2016, and production is scheduled to start at the end of 2018. The investment is expected to lead to the creation of 240 new jobs. The facility will house a production area of approximately 10,000 m², with the possibility of extensions, the company said.
Reinhard Hoffmann, Gerhardi’s managing director, said the project represents a milestone in Gerhardi’s history. The company currently has two production sites in Germany, in Lüdenscheid and Ibbenbüren, for interior and exterior automotive plastic parts.
