In a deal the financial details of which were not disclosed, Saint-Gobain (Paris / France; www.saint-gobain.com) in early January acquired Brazilian speciality extruded tubing producer SG Plásticos (São Paulo; www.sgplasticos.com.br). The French group said the purchase is in line with its strategy to increase its assets in high-performance materials, while at the same time gaining a wider foothold in the US and in emerging countries. The purchase will make the company one of the leading players in Brazil’s high value-added tubing market, Saint-Gobain added.
SG Plásticos operates an 8,000 m2 plant in São Caetano do Sul, located just south of São Paulo. The company processes a wide variety of plastics into tubes, ranging from PVC, PE and PET to PU, PC, PMMA, PA 6, PA 12 and TPU. Its portfolio also comprises PFA, FEP and ETFE. The group primarily caters to customers from the industrial, life sciences and automotive segments.
