The alliance between sporting goods producer Adidas (Herzogenaurach / Germany; www.adidas-group.com) and Parley for the Oceans (New York / USA; www.parley.tv) – see Plasteurope.com of 27.04.2015 – is yielding the first concrete results. The partners recently introduced the “Adidas x Parley concept shoe”, made entirely of yarns and filaments reclaimed and recycled from ocean plastic waste and illegal deep-sea gillnets.

The shoe shows the direction Adidas and Parley for the Oceans are taking, and paves the way for additional launches of consumer-ready ocean plastic products later this year. For the German sports giant, the collaboration with the awareness-raiser is part of its sustainability drive.

During the launch of “Adidas x Parley”, Parley for the Oceans founder Cyrill Gutsch said the partnership shows “that it is possible to turn ocean plastic into something cool.” Eric Liedtke, the executive board member responsible for Global Brands at Adidas, added that the collaboration allows the sporting goods producer “to tap into new areas and creative innovative materials and products for our athletes.”
