Ecotech London (Rainham, Essex / UK; www.ecotechcorp.co.uk) has opened a new GBP 6.5m (EUR 8.1m) PET recycling plant in East London capable of processing more than 18,000 t/y of PET bottles. The recycling plant of the 3,700 m² facility – which has created more than 20 jobs – was supplied by STF Maschinen- & Anlagenbau (Aicha vorm Wald / Germany; www.stf-group.de).
The facility turns out mostly A-grade hot washed PET flake that can be used in thermoforming and other high-spec applications, Ecotech CEO Javed Mawji said, adding that “it is essential to provide a reliable alternative to virgin PET that preserves the environment and does not require technical compromise.”
The London Waste and Recycling Board (LWARB; www.lwarb.gov.uk) invested GBP 2.2m (EUR 2.7m) in the project, with the balance made up by asset finance and private investors, Ecotech said.
