LyondellBasell declares FM for PP from Carrington / Market tightens further
LyondellBasell (Rotterdam / The Netherlands; www.lyondellbasell.com) has declared force majeure for PP produced at its Carrington / UK site.
In a letter to customers dated 7 July, the petrochemical and plastics giant cited technical problems related to a blockage of the polymerisation reactor. The company said its “best estimate” is that the plant will be back on stream in the middle of July, with full run reached again some time in August.
According to Plasteurope.com’s Polyglobe database (www.polyglobe.net), the Carrington plant has capacity for 230,000 t/y of PP. The FM further tightens the European market as LyondellBasell’s Basell Orlen Polyolefins joint venture recently declared force majeure for deliveries from its plant in Poland – see Plasteurope.com of 30.06.2014 – only days after French rival Total declared FM for PP produced at its 930,000 t/y plant in Feluy / Belgium – also see Plasteurope.com of 30.06.2014.
