Just days ahead of the opening of the next “Chinaplas” (www.chinaplasonline.com) plastics fair in Shanghai / China – see Plasteurope.com of 04.02.2014 – Austrian injection moulding machinery maker Engel (Schwertberg; www.engel.com) is underlining its commitment to the Asian market by announcing the establishment of a 100% local subsidiary in Changzhou, Jiangsu province. The new Wintec (www.wintec-machines.com) will start producing the first injection moulding machines in summer this year.

The subsidiary, which will be headed by Peter Auinger – formerly of Engel Mexico – will produce machines for commodity applications, with a key focus not only on the local Chinese market, but southeast Asia, South Korea, Taiwan and India. Both the plant and its service sites are integrated into Engel’s global group, although the Austrian company emphasised that the Chinese subsidiary will be manufacturing machines with reduced modularity and a smaller range of options. This focus, the company said, will allow Wintec to offer its customers high-quality injection moulding machines for commodity applications at a competitive price and with short delivery times.
Commenting on Wintec’s establishment, Auinger said, “Until now, commodity manufacturers in Asia have mainly used injection moulding machines from Taiwanese, Korean, and Chinese suppliers. With Wintec we are developing new target markets.” The Changzhou-headquartered plant will have an independent sales and service structure, Engel said.
