“Equiplast”, “Expoquimia” and “Eurosurfas” to be held in Barcelona in the fall / Triannual Mediterranean event plans to become “World Chemical Summit”
Held every three years, the Mediterranean applied chemistry event comprising the “Expoquimia” (www.expoquimia.com) chemistry fair, the “Eurosurfas” (www.eurosurfas.com) paint and surface treatment show and the “Equiplast” (www.equiplast.com) plastics and rubber show will take place in Barcelona / Spain from 30 September to 3 October 2014. Organisers Messe Barcelona (Tübingen / Germany; www.messe-barcelona.de) and Fira de Barcelona (Barcelona / Spain; www.firabarcelona.com) said this year’s edition will mark a turning point, as the largely Mediterranean event aims to expand its international horizon.

The shows’ director Pilar Navarro explained that by 2023, the triannual event plans to have evolved into the “World Chemical Summit”. To do so, the shows organisers have committed to a formula dubbed “WICAP”, which stands for world, investment, cooperation, application and project. The goal of the plan, which is backed by the European Union’s 2020 Horizon programme, is “to increase the degree of internationalism, connect science and industry and attract foreign investments and projects that are being developed in any country to be presented, exclusively, to exhibitors that are participating in Expoquimia, Eurosurfas and Equiplast.”
Held together since 2005, the three shows will bring together companies from each of the individual exhibit’s sectors, and will be accompanied by a series of congresses, seminars and conferences.
