MITSUBISHI PLASTICS
Full takeover of Quadrant holding company Aquamit / Purchase of 50% stake from Quadrant founders
Mitsubishi Plastics (Tokyo / Japan; www.mpi.co.jp/english) has acquired full ownership of Aquamit (Amsterdam / The Netherlands), the holding company of Swiss high performance polymer producer Quadrant (Zurich; www.quadrant.ch). The Japanese group purchased the 50% stake it did not already own in Aquamit from Quadrant’s founders.
Following the transaction, Aquamit is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mitsubishi Plastics. Financial details of the agreement were not disclosed.
Mitsubishi Plastics and Quadrant’s founders established Aquamit as a joint venture company in 2009 and Aquamit reached 100% ownership of Quadrant through a public tender offer. Since then, Quadrant has achieved a “robust performance”, despite the severe economic downturn, Mitsubishi Plastics said. Plans to expand Quadrant include pursuing further growth in emerging countries in Asia.
In 2012, Quadrant achieved sales of CHF 715m (EUR 569m) and employed about 2,420 people across 20 countries.
