More than 20,000 visitors attend “Interplastica 2013” / Success testifies to revival of the Russian market
The resounding success of this year’s “Interplastica” (www.interplastica.de) trade fair, held from 29 January to 1 February in Moscow / Russia in conjunction with “Upakovka/Upak Italia”, testifies to the recovery in the Russian plastic and rubber markets, reports event organiser Messe Düsseldorf (Düsseldorf / Germany; www.messe-duesseldorf.de). More than 20,000 visitors flocked to the event, where 700 exhibitors from 26 different countries showcased their products. By comparison, last year’s fair only drew 550 exhibitors – see Plasteurope.com of 16.02.2012.
Commenting on the figures, Werner Dornscheid, CEO of Messe Düsseldorf, said, “The Russian market has clearly revived.” In fact, the organiser reports, the plastics sector has been able to reap a lot of the benefits of the upturn in the Russian economy, with rising demand for machinery, raw materials, technical parts and semi-finished goods. Key end-markets include the packaging and construction sector, although there has been a marked upturn in the automotive segment, too. Overall, experts predict that the country’s per capita plastics consumption will rise by about 10 kg to 50 kg by 2016.
According to Bernd Nötel of the German plastics and rubber machinery association VDMA (Frankfurt; www.vdma.org), the key remaining issues are financing investments as well as the need for recycling facilities in the country. Nötel said there is increasing talk of the government planning to finance a recycling system, which would not only provide a further boost to the market, but would also change the population’s attitude towards the material. As for Mario Maggiani, director general of Italian trade association Assocomaplast (Milan; www.assocomaplast.org), he testified to rising inquiries from Siberian businessmen, indicating that this region in particular is becoming increasingly important.
For the first time in its history, this year’s “Interplastica” included a special show about raw materials, in which both local and international players talked about the latest products and developments.
Next year’s “Interplastica” and “Upakovka/Upac Italia” fairs will be held from 28-31 January 2014. For more information, contact Stefan Koschke, Tel: +49 2114560 7768, e-Mail: KoschkeS@messe-duesseldorf.de
