Visitor numbers at Plast Eurasia 2012 rise 23% year-on-year / Foreign visitor numbers up 41% over 2011 / Exhibitor numbers increase by 10% / Next fair held in December 2013
The 22nd edition of “Plast Eurasia” (www.plasteurasia.com), held from 29 November to 2 December 2012 in Istanbul / Turkey and organised by Tüyap Fairs and Exhibitions (Istanbul / Turkey; www.tuyap.com.tr) and the Turkish plastics industry association Pagev (Istanbul; www.pagev.org.tr) – see also Plasteurope.com of 24.10.2012, attracted 38,726 visitors from 86 different countries, a 23% year-on-year rise in attendee figures. Some 1,088 companies and company representatives from 43 different countries exhibited at the four-day event, which was held in 9 halls occupying a total area of 80,000 m2. Exhibitor numbers were up 10.4% over the 2011 event.
In terms of visitor structure, 85% or 32,853 attendees came from Turkey, compared to 5,873 visitors who came from abroad, accounting for 15% of the total. Foreign visitor numbers rose by 41% over 2011, Tüyap said, and have become increasingly international as well. In percentage terms, most international visitors to the fair came from Iran (13%), followed by Russia (8.5%), Egypt (8.3%), Bulgaria (6.4%), Greece (5.8%), Macedonia (4.9%), Ukraine (4.6%), Jordan (4%), Serbia (3%) and Germany (2.7%). The event also was attended by purchasing committees from 22 different countries, including Azerbaijan, India, Iraq, Romania, Russia and Taiwan, among others.

At slightly more than 50%, most visitors came from Europe, followed by Asia Pacific (34.5%), Africa (14.3%) and the Americas (0.6%). Upon closer examination, about 30% of attendees came from countries bordering on Turkey, with 17% visiting from non-EU European countries, 14% from Africa, 13% from western and central Asia, 12% from EU member states and 11% from the Middle East. Attendance from East-Asia Pacific and the Americas was negligible (1.6% and 0.6% respectively). In terms of industry affiliation, almost 20% of visitors came from the plastics machinery field, with raw materials producers coming second at 13.4%, followed by moulds (8.4%). Not surprisingly, the main field of interest, Tüyap’s survey found, was plastics machinery (29%), followed by chemicals and raw materials (15.3%) and moulds (12.5%).
The next Plast Eurasia fair will be held in Istanbul from 5-8 December 2013 and will be held alongside “Composite Istanbul” and “Chemical Eurasia”.
