Transparent PP grade developed for frozen food applications / Higher flow and improved stiffness
Chemicals and plastics producer Borealis (Vienna / Austria; www.borealisgroup.com) has launched a transparent PP grade, “Borpact” SH950MO, for the frozen food packaging sector. The new material brings a combination of transparency and good drop impact properties at low temperatures and its performance is enhanced by higher flow and processability with improved stiffness compared to its predecessor “Borpact” SG930MO.

The material was developed primarily for packaging of deep freeze products such as ice cream, frozen desserts and other frozen food items, and also provides opportunities in broader consumer packaging and housewares, when the combination of good impact performance and transparency is important.

The resin also brings opportunities for downgauging as the material has high flowability and improved stiffness compared to the standard random PP grades, enabling the use of thinner walls and more complex designs without compromising product properties or processing performance, Borealis said.
