After investing in an expansion of its medical operations in China in September (see Plasteurope.com of 06.09.2012), Gerresheimer (Düsseldorf / Germany; www.gerresheimer.com) now announced an upgrade of its medical plastic systems facility in Küssnacht / Switzerland. As part of the investment, financial details of which were not disclosed, the German group built a new ISO class 8 auto-injection systems production and assembly hall measuring 650 m2 that is equipped with state-of-the-art injection moulding machines, robots and assembly lines. The hall also created 20 new jobs at the site.
All in all, the expansion will see Gerresheimer raise the site’s production area to more than 3,700 m2, including 2,900 m2 of ISO class 8 clean room production as well as 800 m2 of ISO class 9 controlled areas. Upon completion, the site will boast the entire production chain, including manufacturing, post-production finishing as well as assembly, testing and packaging. Key applications produced in Küssnacht will include pharmaceutical products such as inhalers and auto-injection systems as well as products for laboratory and molecular diagnostics. Upon completion, the site’s 40 injection moulding machines and 15 assembly stations will be operating around the clock.
