PLASTIC FANTASTIC
The invasion of the giant plastic snails
As part of the annual Accroche-Coeurs performing arts festival, held every year in Angers / France, two giant colourful plastic snails were seen crawling their way up to the cathedral. The slow invaders took eight days to reach the church in a display that their creator and master Florentijn Hofman said signified their slow crawl towards death.
The monstrous slugs were literally crawling with bags. Their bodies consisted of 40,000 plastic bags strung along soccer nets that were draped over steel frames. As the bags fluttered in the wind, visitors to the city could not help the feeling that the giant crawlers were part of an alien invasion.
