In a deal the financial details of which were not disclosed, Swedish packaging group Boxon (Helsingborg; www.boxon.com) has acquired German bulk packaging producer Jumbotainer (Syke; www.jumbotainer.de). The latter will become part of Boxon’s Bulk division and retain its focus on the German market. The business unit also caters to customers across Europe as well as in China, where it operates an office in Shanghai.

Jumbotainer managing director Jörg Wydra welcomed the move, saying “the merge of our two companies will no doubt create the most interesting alternative on the market for big bags in Germany.” Following the acquisition, Jumbotainer’s operations will remain at its headquarters in Syke under the helm of Wydra and the existing management team. In return, Boxon’s Bulk business unit will retain its headquarters in Willich, near Düsseldorf / Germany, with a focus on sales to international key accounts.

Founded in 1977 as a producer of flexible intermediate bulk containers (FIBCs), Jumbotainer was able to steadily raise its big bag market share in Germany, and in 1995 set up a new big bag plant in Tallinn / Estonia.

Boxon’s three business areas – Boxon Pak, Boxon Mark and Boxon Bulk – last posted sales of SEK 850m (about EUR 99m). The group employs 150 workers.
