Carbon fibre joint venture with Aksa is official
As June 2012 drew to an end, Dow Chemical (Midland, Michigan / USA; www.dow.com) and Aksa Akrilik Kimya (Istanbul / Turkey; www.aksa.com) announced the official formation of their new 50:50 Dow Aksa Advanced Composites joint venture – for more details, see also Plasteurope.com of 21.12.2011. The jv, in which both companies expect to invest USD 1 bn over the next five years, will turn out carbon fibre and derivatives for the energy, transportation and infrastructure markets.
Aksa already operates a 1,500 t/y carbon fibre plant at its site in Yalova / Turkey. Early last year, the group touted plans to raise the line’s overall output to a total of 3,500 t/y by July 2012.
