US packaging specialist Berry Plastics (Evansville, Indiana; www.berryplastics.com) on 31 August 2011 announced that it had acquired 100% of the stocks of Linpac Packaging Filmco (Aurora, Ohio / USA; www.linpacpackaging-filmco.com) – a member of the Linpac Group (Birmingham / UK; www.linpac.com). The purchase price was USD 19m, subject to customary adjustments.

Filmco posted annual sales of USD 34m in 2010. The group employs about 100 workers, who manufacture PVC stretch film packaging for fresh meats, produce, freezer and specialty applications at its plant in Aurora. Commenting on the acquisition, Berry Plastic’s Dave Corey, president of Specialty Films, said Filmco’s activities complemented Berry Plastic’s portfolio.

In other news, the Evansville-based group on 1 September 2011 announced that it had completed its acquisition of Rexam’s (London / UK; www.rexam.com) specialty and beverage closures business – see also Plasteurope.com of 21.06.2011.

Berry Plastics reported net sales of USD 4.3 bn in the financial year ended October 2010. The group employs 16,000 workers at 75 manufacturing facilities across the world.
