STYRON
Chemical resistant PC/PET blend introduced for medical housings
Styron (Europe: Horgen / Switzerland; www.styron.com) has extended its “Emerge” range of advanced resins in North America with the addition of PC/PET 9100CR, a PC blend designed for medical equipment housing applications. The material is claimed offer superior resistance to chemicals used in cleaning procedures for durable medical equipment, combating crazing and cracking that can arise from contact with the aggressive chemicals employed.

Styron said that PC/PET 9100CR offers an aesthetically-pleasing appearance and enhanced environmental stress-crack resistance, while maintaining the toughness needed for housings. It is available in natural and custom colour options. It adds to a range that includes “Emerge” PC/ABS 7600, introduced earlier in 2011. This biocompatible product is a non-chlorinated, non-brominated, ignition-resistant blend combining the physical properties of PC with the processability, toughness and flow of ABS.
