Austrian film manufacturer Unterland Flexible Packaging (Langkampfen, Kufstein; www.unterland.at) is being sold by its current owner, packaging group Mondi (Addlestone, surrey / UK; www.mondigroup.com), to Sun European Partners LLP – the European subsidiary of Sun Capital Partners (Boca Raton, Florida / USA; www.suncappart.com). The cost of the transaction, which still has to meet the approval of the relevant authorities, is still unclear. Mondi had acquired Unterland in 2007 for a cash payment of EUR 74m.
In all likelihood, Sun will assign its new acquisition to Britton Flexibles (Winsford / UK; www.brittongroup.com), as it did with Veriplast Solutions and Reuther Verpackung earlier. The Winsford-based group encompasses all the holding’s flexible packaging activities – see also Plasteurope.com of 07.06.2011.
Unterland extrudes more than 60,000 t/y of polyethylene and polypropylene films, which are then processed into ready-made packaging for industrial, consumer and agricultural applications. Some 60% of output is exported, mostly to western and central Europe.
