Plastics and rubber machinery exports increasing at rapid pace / China overtakes France as second largest market / Assocomaplast announces new committee members
Italy’s market for plastics and rubber machinery is continuing the positive trend that started in mid-2010, according to data on the first quarter of 2011 from the Italian statistics office and presented by the Italian plastics and rubber processing machinery and moulds manufacturers’ association Assocomaplast (Milan; www.assocomaplast.org) at its annual assembly.

During the period, exports reached almost EUR 500m, a 24% year-on-year increase, while imports reached EUR 130m, up 12%. Sales of extruders were up 27% on the same period in 2010, while the market for injection moulding machinery, which suffered a heavy contraction during the worst period of the economic crisis, experienced a notable improvement of 33%. Sales overseas of thermoforming machines more than tripled.

Germany remains the largest export market for Italian plastics and rubber machinery while China, accounting for almost EUR 42m (EUR 27m in Q1 2010), overtook France, which accounted for EUR 32m of sales, to take second place. The US jumped to fourth from seventh with EUR 25m market share, followed by Poland, India and Brazil. Improved sales were driven by increased exports of extrusion lines and advanced, high-tech plants, often tailor made to customer requirements, Assocomaplast said.

The latest monthly survey carried out by Assocomaplast among its members revealed a positive outlook among Italian machinery manufacturers on both turnover and exports in the first half of 2011, with positive responses from interviewed companies increasing by 48% sales and 45% exports respectively.

The Assocomaplast annual assembly held on 15 June 2011 elected Vincenzo Balzanelli of FB Balzanelli Avvolgitori, Elisabetta Cirielli (Cibra Nova), Michele Gamberini (Sica), Massimo Margaglione (Gefit), Leonardo Peli (Govoni Sim Bianca Impianti), Pierino Persico (Persico), Nicola Piovan (Piovan), Dario Previero (Previero N), Silvio Tavecchia (Negri Bossi) to its committee for the period 2011 to 2014. The assembly appointed two new arbiters: Gianluigi Fé (ITIB Machinery International) and Mario Colombo (Isotex), who joined the three already in office.
