INDORAMA VENTURES
PET expansion planned in Poland / Capacity to reach 360,000 t/y in 2013
Thai PET and fibres producer Indorama Ventures (IVL, Bangkok; www.indoramaventures.com) said it plans to add 220,000 t/y of PET capacity at its newly acquired site in Wloclawek / Poland. The brownfield expansion will raise PET capacity at the site to 360,000 t/y in 2013.
IVL revealed plans in April to expand its European PET production capacity by 220,000 t/y but did not disclose the location – see Plasteurope.com of 19.04.2011. The company said in a statement that it decided to locate the project in Wloclawek to benefit from economies of scale for PET production and so that it can co-site with an existing third party PTA supplier. The PTA supplier is Polish oil and petrochemicals giant PKN Orlen (Plock; www.orlen.pl), which will supply the material from its new 600,000 t/y PTA plant, also in Wloclawek. PKN Orlen inaugurated the plant earlier this month – see Plasteurope.com of 09.06.2011. IVL acquired the Wloclawek site from SK Chemicals (Seoul / South Korea; www.skchemicals.com) in March – see Plasteurope.com of 09.03.2011.
