After inaugurating a new production hall and high bay warehouse at its site in Kladno / Czech Republic six months ago to meet rising demand for its products, toymaker Lego (Billund / Denmark; www.lego.com) has said it will begin implementing another 25% expansion at the site this month. Altogether, 17,000 m2 are to be added to the 28,640 m2 site, with the additional capacity – up to eight additional production lines are envisioned – expected to come on stream in May 2012. The upgrade would also create another 200 jobs, Lego said, raising the workforce at Kladno to some 1,300 people.
The Czech plant mostly caters to the European market, along with Lego’s main site in Denmark. The toy manufacturer saw its 2010 profits rise by 70% year-on-year – see Plasteurope.com of 14.03.2011.
