In a deal whose financial details were not disclosed, Poliya Composite Resins and Polymers (Istanbul / Turkey; www.poliya.net) has acquired the resins business of Şişecam subsidiary Cam Elyaf (Cayirova / Turkey; www.camelyaf.com). “This is a historic day,” said Buelent Oeztuna, a board member at Poliya, which manufactures and distributes gel coats, composites, polyester resins, coatings and emulsions. “With this transformation, we are now a global force.”
As a result of the acquisition, Poliya’s unsaturated polyester resin (UPR) capacity has risen by 30,000 t/y to about 65,000 t/y. The Turkish company owns a plant in Cerezkoy / Turkey and operates in more than 23 countries worldwide, with a special focus on the markets of eastern Europe, Russia and the Middle East. As for Cam Elyaf, it intends to focus on its glass fibre business in the future.
