PETAINER
New plastic keg offers environmental and weight benefits / New opportunities for beer storage and transport
Specialist Czech packaging manufacturer Petainer (Aš; www.petainer.com) has introduced a new, one-way use keg made entirely of PET. Available in 15, 20, 30 and 40 litre sizes, the keg can be supplied either complete or as a preform, which can be blown close to the time of use. In addition, all kegs come with Micro Matic compatible fittings and are easily connected to tapping systems for draught beer.

The new PET keg not only has a lower environmental impact than its metal alternative, it also allows for new market opportunities since its format makes it easier to respond to short-term changes in demand. According to Petainer, “20-30% more liquid can be transported on a single vehicle using the 20 litre Petainer Keg than with a standard metal keg.” One of the new keg’s biggest advantages, the company says, is the reduced storage space it requires. Once depressurised, they can be easily crushed when emptied and recycled alongside any other recyclable plastic containers.
