Serious fire at flexibles plant in Scotland / Significant damage
A serious fire has caused significant damage at the Livingston / Scotland plant of the Flexibles Europe and Americas division of packaging giant Amcor (Abbotsford / Australia; www.amcor.com). The fire was first noticed on the morning of 16 September and spread quickly. All 84 workers were evacuated from the site, although one had to be treated in hospital for a minor burn. Thick, black smoke led to the other firms on the Brucefield Park estate also having to leave their premises. Some 12 fire engines and 70 firefighters tackled the blaze throughout the night and were still there the next day.
Amcor said the fire has caused significant damage to the main Livingston facility as well as the secondary buildings. The company has already implemented an action plan to meet customers’ needs through alternative sourcing. The Livingston plant is one of nine production sites operated by Amcor Flexibles in the UK.
