MEXICHEM
Green light for takeover of Plasticos Rex und Policyd
Mexico’s anti-trust commission has officially approved the acquisition of one of the largest manufacturers of PVC pipes, Plásticos Rex (Mexico City / Mexico; www.plasticosrex.com.mx), and PVC producer Policyd (San Juan Ixhuatepec / Mexico; www.policyd.com.mx) by Mexichem Group (Tlalnepantla / Mexico; www.mexichem.com.mx). The approval follows Mexichem’s agreement to transfer its chlorine and caustic soda plants at Santa Clara / Mexico to the seller Cydsa (San Pedro Garza Garcia / Mexico; www.cydsa.com) along with a cash contribution. The divestment was mandated because of fears of an excessive concentration, especially in PVC production. Plásticos and Mexichem are the country’s two sole players.
Mexichem's sales in 2009 were around EUR 1.84 bn (EUR 1.85 bn in 2008). EBITDA totalled EUR 409m (EUR 313m). The company recorded 44% of its sales with PVC pipes, 28% with PVC granules and a further 8% with PVC compounds.
