New 30,000 t/y PET food-grade recycling plant in UK
Plastics recycling specialist Jayplas (Oakham, Leicester / UK; www.jayplas.com) has opened a 30,000 t/y food-grade reprocessing plant in Corby / UK, creating 50 new jobs. The company has six post-consumer recycling facilities in the UK and one in China but this is its first food-grade operation. It will reprocess PET bottles supplied by Jayplas’ 78,000 t/y sorting plant in South Normanton, Derby, capable of sorting plastic bottles by type and colour. Jayplas will receive the bottles by local authorities and waste management companies, among others.
Jayplas says it has invested in state-of-the-art reprocessing equipment at Corby and hopes to make significant improvements to the quality of material available to UK bottle and sheet manufacturers. The rPET will be supplied as both food-grade pellet and hot washed flake. Jayplas reportedly plans to establish a second food-grade plant in 2011 capable of reprocessing HDPE bottles.
