POLYSCOPE
SMA additives designed to boost performance of ABS and PMMA
Polyscope (Geleen / The Netherlands; www.polyscope.eu) said its “Xiran” styrene maleic anhydride (SMA) additives can boost the performance of virgin and recycled resins such as ABS and PMMA. The additives can improve thermal stability and widen the processing window, and make parts easier to bond, paint, print on or plate at a lower cost than several other additives or proprietary polymer modification techniques, the company claimed.

Polyscope said the additives also increase the compatibility of PMMA and ABS base resins with glass and natural fibres, rubber particles, thermoplastic elastomers and polymers such as polyamides with which they are normally immiscible.

Xiran SMA has a high glass-transition temperature range of 145-175°C, and grades are available in granular form for either injection moulding or extrusion.

Applications include automotive instrument-panel carriers and air ducts, food packaging, chrome-plated sanitary parts, and components used in construction.
