DSM: High performance bio-based engineering plastic
DSM Engineering Plastics (Sittard / The Netherlands; www.dsmep.com) has developed a high performance thermoplastic copolyester (TPC) with a 20-50% content derived from renewable resources. The new range, branded "Arnitel Eco", is suitable for applications in consumer electronics, sports & leisure and automotive interiors. The company said it is being sampled by selected customers ahead of its launch during "K 2010". As a first generation product, Arnitel Eco is not yet suitable for high temperatures, although the company said it will develop future generations. The hardness of the grade will depend on the renewable content, DSM added.
