TOPAS ADVANCED POLYMERS
Low temperature COC film resin launched
Topas Advanced Polymers (Florence, Kentucky / USA; www.topas.com) has launched a new cyclic olefin copolymer (COC) film extrusion resin which combines low temperature shrinkage with high stiffness for film packaging applications.

The company, which is the American subsidiary of Topas Advanced Polymers (Frankfurt / Germany), says the new grade, “Topas” 9903D-10, extends the commercial glass transition temperature range down to 33 °C. The material is used to enhance polyolefin formulations for a range of mono-layer and multi-layer packaging film applications, including shrink film, shrink sleeves and shrink labels for bottles and other consumer packaging. It is also used in sealant films for stand-up pouches.

Topas says the new COC resin has a melt flow index of 0.9, similar to that of LLDPE grades used for shrink films. The material’s tensile modulus of 100,000 psi increases when the film is oriented.
