AXION POLYMERS
New PS sheet uses 100% recycled polymer / Further grades and colours planned
Axion Polymers (Salford, Manchester / UK; www.axionpolymers.com) has developed a 100% recycled polystyrene sheet product. The company says that if the black sheet, called “Axfoil”, is produced from PS recovered from WEEE plastic waste, it requires 93% less carbon dioxide in its manufacture than virgin polymer. Axfoil is available in varying widths up to 950mm and thicknesses up to 2mm, and is manufactured to the same ISO 9000 quality-controlled standards as the company’s “Axpoly” recycled polymers. It can be used for a variety of thermoforming and sheet conversion applications, such as horticultural pots, in-store point-of-sale displays and collation trays, which can all be recycled again.
Commenting on the new product, Axion Polymers director Keith Freegard said: “The introduction of Axfoil sheet takes the values and benefits of our recycled polymer range one step closer to the end-user, where sustainability is increasingly becoming a key deciding factor at the point of purchase.” Axion says it will be introducing further colours and types of Axfoil in the coming months, including a recycled PP version.
