Twente University to establish a centre for thermoplastic composites
In conjunction with a number of major companies, the University of Twente in The Netherlands (www.utwente.nl) is planning to set up a Thermoplastic Composite Research Centre (TPRC). An agreement to this effect was signed on 12 June 2009 by representatives from the University and from Boeing, Ten Cate Advanced Composites and Stork Fokker. The centre will focus on the use of thermoplastic composites instead of thermosets because of the faster processing and environmentally friendlier processes involved. It will also promote the development of new technologies and target a variety of application markets, in particular the aerospace industry.
