VINYLS ITALIA
Sartor declares company insolvent / Entrepreneur says he was duped / Workers on strike
Fiorenzo Sartor declared Vinyls Italia insolvent on 29 April 2009 following fruitless appeals to the Italian government and the mayor of Venice – see Plasteurope.com of 24.04.2009. The Italian media quote the entrepreneur as saying he was duped because other parties failed to honour agreements made when he took over the business from Ineos (Lyndhurst / UK; www.ineos.com).
Energy and petrochemicals giant Eni has halted the supply of dichloroethane to the PVC manufacturer, formerly Ineos Vinyls Italia (Porto Marghera / Italy), which has three VCM/PVC facilities in Porto Marghera, Porto Torres and Ravenna. It seems that agreement could not be reached on debt repayments and the price of dichloroethane. The decision may have been precipitated by Sartor’s decision to source this starting product from a different supplier in the future. Striking workers are currently blocking deliveries to the Porto Marghera site.
