Hungarian facility reintegrated / Investment in production
Plastic toy producer Lego (Billund / Denmark; www.lego.com) is investing a double-digit million euro in the conversion and expansion of injection moulding facilities at Nyíregyháza / Hungary. The site was reintegrated into the Danish group in December 2008 after months of negotiations with its former supplier Flextronics (Singapore; www.flextronics.com) – see Plasteurope.com of 10.07.2008. This follows an earlier move to reacquire a facility at Kladno / Czech Republic. Production at both facilities was outsourced to the Asian group in 2006 (see Plasteurope.com of 26.06.2006).
At a press conference, the Hungarian facility's new Danish managing director, Jens Peter Clausen, reported that the 186,000 m² site now has 250 injection moulding machines. A workforce of over 1,200 will manufacture the “Lego System” and “Duplo” plastic brick ranges.
