ALBIS PLASTIC
Masterbatch distribution pact with Ampacet / Three European regions / One source for plastics and colours
In a surprise move, Ampacet (Europe: Windhof / Luxembourg; www.ampacet.com) has appointed Albis Plastic (Hamburg / Germany; www.albis.com) as its distribution partner for masterbatches in three European regions: Germany / Austria / Switzerland, Scandinavia and Benelux, effective 1 July 2008. Up to now, the US company based at Tarrytown, New York, has handled its own distribution. The new partners said they are considering extending their cooperation to other countries and regions.
The “high market penetration” of the Hamburg distributor, which also is a compounder of engineering resins, was “pivotal” to its decision to outsource distribution, Ampacet said. With the deal, Albis has discontinued its exclusive German distribution pact for the black and white masterbatch portfolio of US chemical group Cabot (Europe: Louvain / Belgium; www.cabot-corp.com).
Ampacet, which specialises in colour masterbatches for polyolefins and styrene copolymers, as well as black and white masterbatches, has five European production facilities in Belgium, Italy, the UK and Poland. Parallel to its cooperation with the US-based producer, Albis will continue to focus its own masterbatch portfolio on engineering plastics. The company said it sees “a great deal of synergies” with its pan-European distribution of the LyondellBasell (Rotterdam / The Netherlands; www.lyondellbasell.com) polyolefins portfolio, as it can now offer converters a one-stop shop for both the plastics and colours.
