GERRESHEIMER WILDEN
Expansion of German medical plastics systems production site / Workforce set to increase
Gerresheimer Wilden (Regensburg / Germany; www.gerresheimer-wilden.com) will expand its largest production facility for medical plastic systems, at Pfreim / Germany, from 5,500m² to 14,000m² up to 2010, while increasing the number of employees from 460 to 550. A project already in progress will add more than 2,000m² of ISO class 8 (100,000) clean room space. A new 1,500m² facility is being built to house the site’s tool maintenance and repair service, and another 2,000m² of production space will be added in a second phase, from 2009-2010.
Clean room production started at Pfreim in 1956 and today covers “ the entire production chain, from injection moulding to assembly, inspection and medical product packaging in clean rooms,” according to Armin Henning, managing director for the Medical Plastic Systems international production. Among other things, the site, which has 80 injection moulding machines with clamping forces of 15-250 t and 22 fully automatic assembly lines running around the clock, is accredited as an overseas manufacturer for Japan.
Gerresheimer Wilden’s medical plastics portfolio includes such products as multiple-use powder inhalers, multi-dose dry powder inhalers, dosing aerosols, inhalers for the treatment of COPD, components for syringe systems, lancing devices for diabetics, lancets and one-use disposable laboratory articles.
