New nylon grade for under-hood applications
DSM Engineering Plastics (Sittard / The Netherlands; www.dsm.com) claims that a new grade of nylon is the first member of a ‘next generation’ family of “Stanyl” materials that offers improved long-term stability and extended component life beyond those of other high temperature polyamides. “Stanyl Diablo” is said to withstand over 3,000 hours at temperatures as high as 230 °C with less than 15% loss in mechanical properties. DSM has developed the material for under-hood applications where such continuous high temperature levels are increasingly common in new cars.
