Acquisition of Amcor European PET plants completed / Deal creates “most important” integrated manufacturer
PET powerhouse La Seda de Barcelona (Barcelona / Spain; www.laseda.es) has completed its takeover of the European PET bottle manufacturing plants of Australian packaging giant Amcor (Abbotsford; www.amcor.com) – see Plasteurope.com of 04.07.2007. The transfer took effect from the beginning of the fourth quarter, and Spanish press reports say the acquisition price, not to exceed EUR 430m, will be finalised shortly.
With this latest deal, the acquisitive La Seda has become the most important integrated manufacturer of PET, its feedstock PTA und preforms in Europe, according to its president, Rafael Español. He said the company now has a strong base for further business development, in particular for vertical integration. La Seda has acquired all the technology of the Amcor segment, as well as its R&D centre at Brecht / Belgium and a recycling facility at Beaune / France.
