PETCORE
PET collection up 15% in 2005
Collection of post-consumer PET waste in Europe reached 796,000 t in 2005 – a 15.1% increase against 2004, according to European trade association Petcore (Brussels / Belgium; www.petcore.org). The largest increase in collection was seen in Germany, which reported a 32% boost to more than 200,000 t for the year. Significant growth was also seen in Poland and France. Although collection in the UK and Ireland increased, this was mostly mixed plastic waste, which is not included in the Petcore statistics. For the first time, Romania and Bulgaria were included in the survey, bringing the actual increase in collection to nearly 20%.
