Clariant: PVA/PVB business sold to Kuraray
Clariant AG (CH-4132 Muttenz; www.clariant.com) of Switzerland will sell its polyvinyl alcohol and polyvinyl butyral (PVA/PVB) business to Kuraray (Europe: Eval Europe NV, B-2070 Zwijndrecht; www.kuraray.co.jp) of Japan for an undisclosed sum. PVA and PVB are used for emulsions, textile and paper aids, colorants, printer ink and laminated glass interlayers (PVB). The business division has a turnover of CHF 200m. Kuraray is already market leader for ethyl vinyl alcohol copolymers (EVOH) which is used for barrier layers.
