Shell donates PEEK patents to SRI
After failing to find a buyer for its "Carilon" and "Carlite" polyether ketones (PEEK), Shell (www.shell.com) has agreed to donate the patents for the polymers to US-based nonprofit research institute SRI (www.sri.com; Menlo Park, California). SRI said the polymers disclosed in the patents are of "immediate interest" for their price/performance ratio and many applications. The research institute, which performs contract R&D and licenses technologies worldwide, said it will incorporate the patents into its own polymer technology portfolio.
