RESILUX
Sales and profit up / Strong demand for multi-layer preforms / Capacity expansion in Russia
In the fiscal year of 2002, the Belgian preform and bottle producer Resilux NV (B-9230 Wetteren; www.resilux.com) posted a 5.5% sales increase to EUR 154.4m. The operative result rose by 28% to EUR 10.2m. In total, the company sold 750m bottles (+26%) and 1.88 bn preforms (+12%).
Despite the fact that Resilux is only marginally affected by economic fluctuations, the company experienced a significant sales drop in the fourth quarter, which was attributed to inventory liquidation by European customers in the wake of the relatively mild summer and the introduction of an obligatory deposit on plastic bottles which led to a significant decline in December.
With 44%, Belgium was the most important sales market for performs, followed by Switzerland (15%), Russia (15%), Spain (13%), Greece (11%) and Hungary (4%). The bottles, which are produced exclusively in Switzerland, are mainly sold in Switzerland and Germany. The demand for returnable bottles rose significantly.
Resilux invested about EUR 18m into restructuring its Swiss facilities. At the company´s new Bilten site, the first new production lines came on-stream in January. The facilities in Hochfelden, Wauwill and Wetzinkon have been shut down. Resilux has confirmed its plans to double the capacity of its Russian preform production by 2003. The company expects a stable growth in all markets.
