Part of Völkl ski production to move to China
Production costs at the German facility of ski producer Völkl (D-94315 Straubing; www.voelkl.de) are apparently too high for the new owner, US sporting goods manufacturer K2 (Carlsbad, California; www.k2sports.com). Völkl´s employees are being asked to forego 20% of current pay. Plans also call for manufacture of skis in the medium and lower price ranges to be moved to a K2 site at Guangzhou / China, starting in spring of next year. This could result in 150 additional jobs being lost at Straubing, following staff reductions of 80 since the buyout in July.
