Crompton and Great Lakes set to merge
Plastics additives producers Crompton (www.cromptoncorp.com), Middlebury, Connecticut / USA, and Great Lakes (www.greatlakes.com), Indianapolis, Indiana / USA, are to merge in an all-stock transaction scheduled to be completed in mid-2005. The deal would create the third-largest publicly traded US speciality chemicals firm, with sales of more than USD 4.1 bn and a leading position in a number of niche markets. Crompton would hold 51% of the combined company, which is to be based at Middlebury, Connecticut, and headed by Robert L. Wood, Crompton’s current chairman, president and CEO.
