Update: Purchase of Dow's PP Licensing and Catalysts business now complete
In a cash deal worth USD 500m, US speciality chemicals group W. R. Grace (Columbia, Maryland; www.grace.com) recently announced that its purchase of Dow Chemical’s (Midland, Michigan / USA; www.dow.com) Polypropylene Licensing and Catalysts business – for previous coverage, see Plasteurope.com of 15.10.2013 – was now final. The acquisition makes it the world’s second-largest PP licensor based on installed capacity, W. R. Grace said.
The deal includes Dow’s “Unipol” PP processing technology. Commenting on the purchase, W. R. Grace CEO Fred Festa said, “The Unipol brand and the capabilities it represents are highly respected in the marketplace, and we are committed to strengthening that position.”
The Unipol technology – including the “Unipol Unipacc” process control system, the “Shac” catalysts systems, the “Consista” non-phthalate catalyst systems as well as the “ADT” and “Consista” advanced donor systems – broadens W. R. Grace’ existing polyolefin catalysts portfolio, the company added.
