WITTMANN BATTENFELD
Automatic detection of surface defects to be demonstrated at “K 2010”
Wittmann Battenfeld (Kottingbrunn / Austria; www.wittmann-battenfeld.com) has introduced a technique for in-line measurement of surface defects in moulded plastic components for products including mobile telephones, LCD monitors and interior car parts that demand high quality surface finish. The system, developed by company’s polymer competence centre in Leoben / Austria, is claimed to achieve 100% detection of defects without employing a human observer.

An inspection system unit will be demonstrated at “K 2010” (www.k-online.de) in Düsseldorf / Germany later this month (Hall 16, Stand D22). Test samples will be produced on a Wittmann Battenfeld EcoPower 110/350 and automatically positioned by a Wittmann robot and a pneumatic slide. Images will be captured by using a CCD-camera and processed using a specially developed mathematical model to detect any defects present.
